Setting up an e-commerce website could be key for retailers looking to survive the current economic downturn, an expert has said.
The internet - which has seen a boom in online sales in recent times - may be the channel of choice for larger retailers in particular, Neil Munroe of credit report service Equifax commented.
"There's been a growth in some of the larger websites in their development and internet-based sales which, ... if they can grow that, [is] very cost-effective and very low margin as you don't have to have all the retail environment to support it," he explained.
For those looking to develop a new website, Graham Charlton of E-consultancy also said that usability is key to making a success of the online platform.
Businesses would be well advised to ensure potential customers can quickly find the information they are looking for by ensuring navigation is simple and that processes such as retail checkout do not take too long to complete, he explained. July 31 08 Source Bluhalo
