Targeted Traffic

Targeted Traffic

Web Shop Designs are regularly asked if a web shop will be successful. We cannot answer this because after the shop is built we have no control over what happens to it. Bear in mind that a basic web shop often costs about the same as your annual entry to Yellow Pages. The difference being that your web shop can be there forever after it is launched so it is worth having anyway. If you are in business having no website is often taken to mean that you are not keeping up with the times.

Web sites when properly optimised can be found on search engines and are great long term investments. With minimal maintenance they can work for you 24 hours a day.

The main reason that websites and the Internet are great ways to promote a business is that they generate targeted traffic.

What is Targeted Traffic?

If you are selling garden furniture. The main way that people will find your site will be from an online furniture directory (targeted traffic) or by searching with a search engine like Google. Someone looking for "garden furniture" may type this into the Google search box. If your site is listed prominently amongst the results then you are clearly in with a great chance of making a sale (highly targeted traffic).

This compares to the situation where you open a garden furniture shop in the high street. It is obvious that most of the people who shop in the high street are not in the market for garden furniture. This is not targeted traffic.

The Internet has become people's first port of call

This is because it is quicker and more convenient. When they find the relevant company's website they will find out much more about them than they would in yellow pages. This is why many businesses now list their web addresses in their Yellow Page entry. They know that even if they are found in Yellow Pages their websites give them the opportunity to tell prospective customers a lot more.
